MaxInfidelis ::: Favorites All religion needs to be moved where it belongs, to mythology. The open atheist movement is relatively new, Christians on the other hand have a long history of persecution. Kent Hovind is an example of a Christian that feels he needs to rape science, he has provoked atheists. The time of religion has come to an end, it needs to be wiped out, not people, but religion. Religion has had its time, now we need to deal with reality. 07-06-18 08:20:45 _____________________________________________________
trentamj ::: Favorites Science and religion offer two perspectives on understanding Life, the World, and Everything. One can refer to the former as the, "There's less than meet meets the eye" perspective, while the latter can be thought of as the "There's more than meets the eye" perspective, one too reductionist, the other too fanciful. 07-06-18 14:45:44 _____________________________________________________
plukethep ::: Favorites Ah I seem to have misread your original post, humblest apologies, good read anyways. BTW I am enjoying the reasoned argument and respect for both sides. A rare thing on the evangelical 'tube 07-06-18 15:25:40 _____________________________________________________
comhurls ::: Favorites Pretty good. It is rare to hear intelligent discourse from an atheist:)Sorry to be condescending -but I am often baffled by how even intelligent atheists will premise their arguments against a simplistic caricature of religious faith/divinity -assuming people of faith envision God as a bearded guy on a cloud - then arguing vigorously against it. 07-06-18 22:52:28 _____________________________________________________
comhurls ::: Favorites To follow on previous comment and to balance the scales - as a theist I am more bothered by the moronic arguments by Christians for the historicity of Genesis - a theological book (or mythological if you prefer)that is debased by trying to argue for it as "fact". Creationist vs. evolution arguments are about as compelling as a mud-wrestling match- engrossing but debasing to watch, maybe thrilling but ultimately humiliating to partake in. 07-06-18 22:54:04 _____________________________________________________
azrienoch ::: Favorites No worries. I feel the same way. 07-06-18 22:55:23 _____________________________________________________
azrienoch ::: Favorites Again, I feel the same way. Thanks for the comments! 07-06-18 22:59:55 _____________________________________________________
twiliteminotaur ::: Favorites There is also a common underlying questionable concept (partially thanks to Cartesian ideas) of emotion and reason as two separate animals constantly warring upon each other for "driver's seat time". Cognitive neuroscience is now suggesting emotion and thought are inextricably linked, and that it is more a matter of different thoughts/emotions invested in different ways. 07-06-22 20:39:43 _____________________________________________________
likenfreude ::: Favorites Yes, I'm driving this "car" down the highway, with proven methodology on the GPS, smooth music of childhood belief on the radio, and the demands of my present life on the cellphone. I look at myself in the rear-view mirror: who IS that guy? 07-06-23 02:21:50 _____________________________________________________
numb3rsthatsall ::: Favorites I think in a way where I like to know things and how they work because I think it will help me succeed in life, succession in life is only important because I fear I might lose it? But I fear for my life because I like the emotions in life, which are like chemicals, i think, so.. I think the way I do because I want to get high?? 07-07-04 20:28:09 _____________________________________________________ |
