Description:

http://www.unseen64.tk/ Video from SoST, Secrets of Sonic Team: www.sost.emulationzone.org. The original file was put up on The Sonic Cult: http://www.sonic-cult.org. original Capture was done by Kat from the Sonic Cult forums, many thanks to her! Reencoded by Blaze. "Sonic X-treme is an unreleased platform game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was originally developed by Sega for the Mega Drive/Genesis but was moved to the Sega 32X and eventually to the Sega Saturn and intended to be released around Christmas of 1996, but after numerous problems and a long hiatus of development hell, it was finally dropped in 1997. It would have been the first fully 3D Sonic game and the first original Sonic title developed for the Sega Saturn. The game's director Chris Senn has organized a Sonic X-treme remake project entitled Project S, which started development late in 2006. [...] Sonic X-treme was originally intended to be developed for several other game systems prior to the Sega Saturn. In its earliest conception, the game was set to be released on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and later on the 32X, under the name Sonic Mars (based upon the codename for the 32X). However, it was quickly decided that the game would require much more powerful hardware to cope with the new engine, and for commercial reasons, the release of a Sonic game on the new Sega Saturn console was a necessity. Sonic Mars would also have featured Sally Acorn and the other Freedom Fighters[1]. Sonic X-treme was eventually cancelled because of many internal problems." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_X-treme

Saturn beats PSX in power, but it is harder to program. Even more, the PSX is easy to program. So, the number of [good] games for the PSX quickly increased, beating Saturn. (You know that you buy a console for its games.)

I agree knucles, saturn was a top machine no doubt, but as you say they are tech demos, from outside i see vast popup, dodgy framerate, flat round, basic texture, no AI, same goes for the excellent shenmue demo,it was a realtime video playing out!!! not realtime game environments atall. There are reasons these never came out, just google articles from the sega programmers who worked on these games. . .
