Orochi's a snake...not a dragon. But i guess he does look rather dragon like in this game. But originally Orochi is a snake.

I've actually heard both. The title I went for when describing this vid was actually from a Takao Okawara movie by that name. I'll change it to Serpent though for you. ;)

To be literal, they call him a Serpent in the game, but he's more or less a kind of hydra. A hydra is technically a multi-headed dragon, except what makes Orochi not a dragon is that one, Orochi in Japanese mythology is more described as a serpent but looks like a dragon in scroll work, and his body in the game is an earthen base rather than a living base. Serpent, however, was a common substitute for dragon in ancient and medieval times...

My guess is that Orochi in Japanese stands for snake...

Well, many dracontologists (Yes, there is such a thing as a dracontologist) believe that the origin of the belief of dragons came from sightings of large snakes and lizards. Therefore, it is possible that Orochi could be both described as a dragon and a serpent. Remember, at the time the legend of Orochi was first told, there were no television, internet, or cameras...so people just had to imagine what the creatures people described from their adventures looked like.

Oh, there's a legend about the Orochi. The person who killed it gave it wine to make it drunk. Then he cut off each head. The game stays true to Japanese mythology.
